I had my doubts. When seeing the photos of the Christians taking shelter in Mosul or the Yazidi on Mount Sinjar from the oncoming bands of murderers from ISIS, I felt like I was seeing dead people. That would be their fate. The soldiers of ISIS would eventually find and kill them. And then, as unexpected as a snowstorm in August, President Obama ordered the military to initiate humanitarian aid for the Yazidi on Mount Sinjar and to conduct active countermeasures against the ISIS targets near Arbil and any ISIS movement toward the Yazidi.
Although I have been critical of President Obama, this is welcome news. There are ample pieces of evidence that the world is not just dealing with a run-of-the-mill civil war. It is genocide. The desire of the Islamic State as they call themselves now, is pure evil. It is hate with automatic weapons and knives. I want no further involvement in the Middle East but this has to be stopped. To say that this is a result of the vacuum that President Obama created when he ordered the troops out of Iraq too early and too quickly is true, but at this point it doesn't matter. President Obama needs to step up and remain engaged. Put off the vacations, let the golf clubs gather dust, focus on being president, and take a critical look at the state of the world when the United States is asleep at the switch. Being President of the United States is more than having your vacations funded by taxpayers. For four or eight years, you only have one duty; to protect the United States and do what is best for the nation, which at this point in time is providing global leadership against a group of killers the like of which we have not seen since the 1940s.
