Israel and Hamas

I am currently reading Letters and Papers From Prison by Dietrich Bonhoeffer and though inspiring it is also deeply disturbing. Inspiring because Bonhoeffer’s faith never wavers and he casts the best possible scenario for his loved ones to whom he corresponds. But it is deeply disturbing because of hindsight. I am able to read history and have a clear understanding of what Germany was at that time and what the Nazis were. The more inspiring, gracious, and intellectually amazing Bonhoeffer was the more I want to scream out for God to step in and eliminate the Nazis. But I know the ending for this piece of history and the eternal salvation of Bonhoeffer.

The Christians in Mosul are in a dire predicament. (here) After living in Mosul for almost 2,000 years they are now faced with either leaving Mosul as Christians, or staying and converting to Islam. If they stay in Mosul and do not convert ISIS or the new Caliphate will kill them.  This is a routine flashback for Christians when confronted with Islam, the religion of peace.  This same scenario occurred in Syria as the various rebel forces occupied an area in that combat zone. (here) I knew what would eventually occur in this new Islamic nation. All one has to do is look at the history of Islam.

Islam would like to make this same scenario happen in Israel. Hamas would rather kill Jews than live in peace. They would rather kill Jews at the expense of their own people. They would rather kill Jews than have a prosperous nation. As they migrate to other countries, the followers of Islam carry their hatred with them. France is currently experiencing the worst of the anti-Semitic hatred at the moment.  To make matters worse and for totally irrational reasons, Europe and the American administration looks to any opportunity to bash the Israelis and label the Palestinians and their Hamas terrorists as the honorable underdog. Even when Hamas rejects a peace overture, the West broadcasts the death totals for the conflict and emphasizes the Gaza civilians rather than Hamas who initiated this conflagration.  Secretary Kerry is demanding Israel accept a truce and will soon use the non-fly rule for airliners as part of a hammer over Israel. Unless Israel can destroy the majority of the tunnel complexes this incursion into Gaza will be a failure. I hope Israel completes the needed destruction of the tunnels. 

God continues to protect Israel and will do so in this instance. Christians everywhere need to remember to pray for peace and the well being of our fellow Believers in the face of a violent and unrelenting Islam. The western countries don’t seem to understand how badly they need this piece of history to go in favor of the Jews.
