In 1st Timothy 2:1-15 the Bible instructs
Christians to pray for our leaders that we may “lead a peaceful and quiet life,
godly and dignified in every way.” I will be the first to confess that my
prayers for our government and for President Obama are not often enough and
lack the fervency that the President is due.
By now readers of this blog should not be unaware of my
Christian and conservative leanings and my dissatisfaction with the leadership
and the direction from our government. When Mr. Obama stated that the United
States was no longer a Christian nation, he appeared to do so with a sense of
satisfaction, totally disregarding the blessings that have been bestowed upon
America by God and marginalizing Christians in general.
President Obama has had a very bad couple of weeks and his
ill thought out quips about Syria have not only embarrassed him personally, but
have damaged the standing and possibly the future of the United States. As
Christians we need to be on our knees praying for wisdom for this President.
Whether or not we believe Mr. Obama is a Christian will not impede God’s use of
him.
The New York Times published an article from Vladimir Putin
this morning where he chides the United States for our position in the world
and denigrates our country for encouraging our citizens to see themselves as
“exceptional,” stating this is a “dangerous” motivation (full article here).
President Obama has allowed himself and this country to be lectured on
leadership and self-worth by a KGB-trained thug who maintains power by
imprisoning those who disagree with him or having them murdered when
necessary. His talk of the
traditions of democracies rings hollow. More tests from our enemies will soon
follow. This is where we find ourselves today, with an American President who
may not covet but needs our prayers.
He will have mine.
