I generally try and keep blatant political comments to a
minimum in this blog, preferring to opine about what our government is doing
rather than specifically denigrating President Obama. While I make no apologies
for being a conservative, I understand that there may be readers of the liberal
persuasion out there and I choose not to be a cheerleader for conservative
causes or thought processes. Of course I do invoke my Christian beliefs as they
pertain to whatever subject I may be blogging on at the moment.
What I am blogging on at this moment is our political
process in general. I was listening to Sean Hannity on the drive home today,
and Sean was in full throttle attack on the entire spectrum of the Obama
scandals. But when questioned by a liberal guest, Sean responded with much the same
equivocation that the liberals employ. I do not consider myself a novice at
political thought or an outside-the-beltway bumpkin on current affairs. What I
do consider myself to be is one of the run-of-the-mill Americans where things
still matter.
If people break the law, whether liberal or conservative,
they should be indicted and punished. It shouldn’t matter that the malfeasance
happened in the prior administration or the one currently in office. We don’t
turn our desire for justice off just because we threw one party out of the
White House. Of course the Beltway insider answer is a smile and a wink with
the polite “it’s just politics” to explain away the previous righteous
indignation before the election. Out here in the boondocks, we aren’t allowed
the luxury of four-year time spans to dodge the indictments and punishment and
then go on our merry way, or to resign from an appointment and automatically be
absolved from further investigation. Why do we accept the worst from the people
we elect? Why do we let our party’s political leadership and the Sunday morning
news hosts treat everything like it’s a game? Their gamesmanship has
consequences out here. I am an avid reader of National Review and they have an
academic viewpoint on the entire process. It is not academic out here. Stuff
really happens. People really pay taxes and put up with insane regulations
while trying to make a living. Things are not always civil. Why doesn’t the
White House Press Corps throw tomatoes at Jay Carney, Obama’s mouthpiece? There
should be price to pay for putting out blatant misstatements and outright lies.
And if you have any self-respect,
why would you want a job that requires lying? And why doesn’t the national
media understand that if they don’t treat their own vocation with more respect,
they will go the way of the typewriter; still somewhat functional, but overall
a waste of time and effort.
We have become so desensitized by all of the political gamesmanship
that we have forgotten how hard it was to establish this country. We seem to
believe that we have a right to exist because we are the United States. I’m
sure Rome felt that same sense of entitlement.
