The answer is probably nothing. And the question is how do
we act to our friends in the Middle East? To make it simpler all we have to do
is recognize that we only have one friend in the Middle East and that is
Israel. The rest of them are our
enemies, either overtly or at best, covertly.
The Arab Spring has allowed Islamists to blossom from Yemen
to Libya. Even though the guns have not stopped firing, Syria will eventually
fall into this same fold and for those who would say we have to support these
groups who oppose the current regime because Assad is the worst of the possible
outcomes, I need to paraphrase that question from Dr. Phil, “And how is that
working out for us?” Name one Arab country that has not chosen to implement a
radical Islamic government in place of the deposed dictator?
I am not saying the old despots were pure as the driven
snow, but we need to wake up and smell the coffee. Our relationship with the
new Arab leadership is not improved and moreover, they have embraced the hard
line rhetoric against Israel.
And now we come to Egypt. Should we be completing a foreign aid package to Egypt that
was agreed upon when Hosni Mubarak was president? I think not. Why should an
openly hostile government that is punitive in nature to Coptic Christians and
openly supportive of the Muslim Brotherhood’s anti-Israel stance be the recipient
of state of the art F-16 jet fighters and M1A1 Abrams tanks?
